Lonely tree at sunset

It Never Entered My Mind
(Lyrics by Lorenz Hart, music by Richard Rodgers)
-
Once I laughed when I heard you saying
That I'd be playing solitaire
Uneasy in my easy chair
It never entered my mind
And once you told me I was mistaken
That I'd awaken with the sun
And ordered orange juice for one
It never entered my mind
You had what I lack, myself
Now I even have to scratch my back myself
Once you warned me that if you scorned me
I'd say a lonely prayer again
And wish that you were there again
To get into my hair again
It never entered my mind
Once you warned me that if you scorned me
I'd say a lonely prayer again
And wish that you were there again
To get into my hair again
It never entered my mind

It never entered my mind - Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster

The lonely tree

In this world, though ever so crowded
Many of us always stand yet alone.
Our minds control, but often still wander
Looking for places, just to call home.
In a cold world, where the sun stays distant
Snow blankets the earth, yet warms the core.
The lonely tree, rooted beneath the snow,
Is the lonely being, always wishing for more.
It stays there, still, staring and dreaming
Watching the land before it; wanting to be.
If, to get past the fear, the roots will uplift
Allowing itself to see and be seen.
For now, it remains a single, lonely life form,
Growing through the cold; wishing for heat.
Keeping the thoughts of days yet to come
For springtime will bring it others to meet.
